Drs. Martin J.M. Thoolen (1962)
"What moves people from within, that is
what inspires me
every day again and again. It really is an adventure
to be
able to experience that people can create a new balance.
New inspiration and perspectives can help people to bring
out
the best in themselves and in others. Fantastic!"

Deeper motivations of people
"Why do people do what they do? How and why do we create
a world in the way we do? These are questions which have fascinated
me from the time I was a schoolboy. I wanted to understand and
ponder (human) nature.
Why is it that people at work behave in a certain way, and what
do they base their choices on? What is the role of their experiences,
their beliefs, their images, their feelings, their personalities
and perhaps their soul in all of this? My interest in these questions
resulted in the development and execution of various self-management
training courses and individual coaching for a training and advisory
bureau."
Room for empowerment
"After a few years of working, I started
my own company. This gave me the space to develop even more ideas
about essential questions for people in organizations.
In the meantime I had had several inspiring experiences in my
collaboration with Wendy Hobbelink. This had been going well for
a few years, so we decided to start working together in our new
business: Circumference. In the past few years, Wendy and I have
shared our different perspectives and have developed programs
which are based on the fundamental questions in work and in life.
This has concretely resulted, amongst others, in an innovative
training course with inspiring concepts and exercises, named Personal
Empowerment."
Inspiration from all corners
of the world
"Over the last few years, I
have become involved in the supervision, education and workshops
in the field of, among others, enneagram, focusing, NLP, Voice
Dialogue, Sensory Awareness, energy work, intuitive development
and light work. Major sources of inspiration for me are lectures,
workshops and books by Hal and Sidra Stone, Peter Delahay, Deepak
Chopra, Olga Kharitidi, Peter Toonen, Jhadten Jewall and Steve
Rother. I have also been inspired by different truths from all
cultures and religions, from Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism,
Native Americans, the Mayas, and the Aboriginals. Listening to
music, making music and nature are also important sources of inspiration
for me."
My life's path
In order to gain a more in-depth
insight into people in organizations, I chose to study clinical
and labor-organization psychology. I specialized in the development
and execution of training courses in organizations. At that time,
I gave different training courses in the field of group dynamics,
group interventions, and conflict management at the University
of Utrecht, and also worked as a freelance trainer for an accountants
organization. In order to gain more didactical experience, and
because I was moved by a piece of music about the South African
freedom fighter Steve Biko, I started to teach at schools on behalf
of Amnesty International.
After that, I found a large training and advisory office. I spent
a few years there to learn more about my personal style as a trainer
and a coach.
I had a variety of interests and studied, developed and provided
training programs based on themes like communication, management,
team building, conflict management and mediation, employment selection
and stress and time management. During this time, I became qualified
as a Behavioral Sciences-Educated trainer at the Dutch Institute
of Psychologists.
The skills training could not inspire me forever. In 1993 I started
to become more and more interested in the people's deeper motivations.
This interest in what moves people from within continues to inspire
me day after day."
